UK Tour

Well, it's been a long time since I last picked up my camera due to busy work at uni and also getting into other time-consuming hobbies.

This summer, I had a 10 day tour around the UK, stopping at places below:

Norwich, The Broads & Great Yarmouth: Since I have a great love for windmills, The Broads were filled with them, I'd say over 30 in a very concentrated region. Come were ruins of old windmills, some were still in working condition, I visited 7 of them.

St. Andrews: Home of golf, prince William went to uni here, was a very nice place, full of middle class people and posh things. Visited the Old Golf Course which some may know is the World's first ever golf course.

Ayr: Doubt many of you would have heard of this place, I have only seen it on the maps once or twice, it's a lovely sea side town in the west of Scotland. I found a very intriguing castle ruin there, completely sealed up. From the surrounding and being built right on the cliff edge, you could imagine the castle's former glory in the past.

Lake District: I've always wanted to visit the Lake District in England. It had nice sceneries, but sadly, I did not take many photos here since good photos will require you to really explore the place, for me, just passing by the place, it was very hard to get anything good.

Liverpool: Had to stop here before Chester since I'm a Liverpool fan!

Chester: A city with style, full of Tudor period houses and I felt like being in a fairy tale. Old rocky roads and old wonky houses stretching far.

Portmeirion: This was in Wales, Wales generally contained very good sceneries and it's landscapes were very pure and unspoilt. Portmeirion was a place refurbished by a rich guy a long time ago. Having a strong Mediterranean flavour, it was not typical of Wales at all, but it was by far the best place during the whole tour, wait and see the photos!

Bath: A city where the Romans bathed, the whole city has been made a World Heritage Site.

Stone Henge: I just had to see this, even though I knew it was only a few rocks on a field, this site was just too famous to pass up on, especially when it was on route home too.

There were other places that I visited too, but did not take any photos of:

Durham: Didn't actually take any photos here this time since I live here when I'm at uni, but my parents wanted to see the place.

Edinburgh: A lovely place but again, didn't get the camera out much, must have been braindead that day...

Dundee: Stayed the night here, an industrial city in Scotland.

Back From China

It was an amazing holiday there, so many fun things I did there and of course I did not give my camera much rest. I only had time to process 2 photos so far (I'm real sleepy now), but rest assured that there will be lots more to come!

Here's a list of the main places I visited:

-) Zhou Zhuang (In Su Zhou) which is one of the few places in China that have houses built by water, rather like Venice.

-) Tai Hang Shang divides He'nan province and ShanXi province. This is a hell of a landscape, it was more like cliff rather than your typical mountains. It came with waterfall and forested areas too

-) West Lake in Hang Zhou, a beautiful and tranquil place, it spawned varies legends and myths.

-) Qian Dao Hu, otherwise known as the Thousand Island Lake (not the US one). The thousand islands are formed after the construction of a dam (Xin An Jing), this dam met that the mountainous areas were sank and thus the peak of the mountains formed different islands.

-) Haung Shan, the most famous mountain in China, was an amazing place, you just need to google image search the name to see what the mountain looks like in its full glory. Sadly, I discovered that you really need to visit there frequently (or be very lucky) to catch the conditions seen on brilliant Haung Shan photographs.

-) And not least, there was Shanghai. Shanghai was a fantastic city, officially the sixth largest in the world. There were so many things to photograph! The Bund, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Yu Garden just to name a few. Stunning skyscrapers, modern and old buildings occupied almost every inch of Shanghai.

I visited many other places too, but that’s too many to list. Above are those more important places of interest. If I had it my own way, I’d probably extend the holiday to 4 months or so, lol! But it was a good experience working with a strict and tight time limit.

Trips & More Trips

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 10, 2006, 2:13 PM
A very eventful few days, I have visited so many wonderful places on the two trips I have been on, and more is install towards the end of summer.

The two college trips I went on were fantastic, I have visited six places including UK’s highest unbroken waterfall (High Force Waterfall), Lindisfarne (also known as Holy Island) and Bamburgh Castle. Towards the end of summer, I will be heading to China. I’ll be landing in Shanghai and the rest is yet unplanned, but scenes of natural beautiful are my priority. City scenes are also high up on my list.

Hello everybody,

I haven't been posting much on deviant art that much recently – whether they are deviations, journals or forum post. In fact I haven’t visited the site much at all. Uni has been fun so far and there were plenty to keep me busy.

Even though Durham is such a wonderful place for photography, I guess the closer you live to nice scenes, the more you take it for granted and you start to postpone your outings with your camera day after day.

I have recently, due to boredom of revision, had the real urge to go out and photograph. So off to Leeds Castle I went. It was after I bought my ticket that I found out it was valid for one year – so I’m going to milk the place until I can’t find much more to photograph or the ticket runs out, whichever comes first.

It was also a good opportunity to test out my polarizers and my DSLR further as I had little chances to do so back in Durham. I have, after 2 trips to the Castle, learnt a lot about these new equipments of mine.

I hope you enjoy my photos, if you do live around the area and haven’t been to Leeds Castle (which is not around the city of Leeds but in Kent), do go down there, it’s a great place for a day out, picnic, or just some relaxing.

My First Real Adventure!

Hey everybody,

Either this Sunday or 2 Sundays later, I'll be heading out to an old windmill in a place called Ferryhill, It's a long way out and I'll be back Monday evening. Along the way I'll visit the places that seem interesting on my map.

The real excitement for me is the fact that this is the first time (since I'm not living at home anymore) that I can go somewhere quite far away and not have to be back home for the night.

The plan is to be there before sunset (sunset is actually about 4:00pm), then I'll be sleeping out the night (I'm not sure where yet but probably on the streets), finally, wake up early, if I got any sleep at all) for the sunrise (which I don't yet know the time for).

It probably won't be a pleasant experience, but it'll sure be one that I'll remember.
